NEWS: Birmingham celebrate this Friday

Birmingham Monarchs Cycle Speedway Club celebrate their 2015 season with a presentation night this Friday 15th January 2016.

Starting at 8pm at the Hamstead Social Club, Old Walsall Rd, Birmingham, West Midlands B42 1HY in the function room. Running till late with disco and buffet, entry £3.

This gives the club’s riders, officials, parents and supporters a chance to celebrate both team and individual glory, plus the handing out of the club awards.

There certainly is plenty to celebrate for the 2015 season  which includes 3 major team wins in the club team fours and indoor team champions. Whilst the juniors won the Midland Junior league.

The club also finished runners up in both the 1st and 2nd Divisions.

Individual success was abundant for club riders also. Chris Timms finished 2nd in the World Final, Mark Winwood reached the veterans World Final, as well taking the Over 40s Eurovets title and was also second in the M6 open trophy.

Ricki Johnson finished 3rd in the Indoor Open Championships, whilst Paul Timms ended his season on a high by winning the TLI over 50s title.

The evergreen Bob Prince won the Over 60’s Eurovets title and Over 60’s TLI title as well as runner up in both the British over 60s Nationals  and over 50s Eurovets.

Steve Hodgkinson won the Eurovets 50s title, came 2nd in the Over 50s National title plus qualified for the Veterans World Final.

The juniors also took glory in the M6 U14s competition, making it a clean sweep with Marc Phipps taking the title from Connor Steel and Ryan Winwood. Nathan Groves also finished 3rd in the M6 open championship.

Great Barr based rider Nathan added, “It has been a good year for me and the club, especially being part of the team that won both Fours Championships, there is a great bunch of people at the club.

“My goals were to win at least one club title, which we did. Also to qualify for the British Open Final but unfortunately I missed out by 2 points.”
