NEWS: M6 success for Monarch Mark
Birmingham Monarchs senior rider, Mark Winwood, took victory in the opening round of the M6 trophy competition at East Park, Wolverhampton on Saturday.
Sutton Coldfield based, Winwood, qualified for the final where he beat fellow Monarch rider Nathan Groves, who after impressing in the heats, fell in the final.
Although the U14s was won by a local youngster, Marc Phipps came 2nd whilst Billy Winwood took 3rd.
All the points over the four round series count towards the title, won in its first season last year by Bobby McMillan.
This Sunday (24th April) the Monarchs face the Wednesfield Dragons in Midland League action. The Dragons have a young and talented side coupled with the experienced Chris Jewkes they will be a handful with a tough match in store. Tapes up at 2pm.
The Monarchs have injury worries over club number one Chris Timms, who suffered a knee injury last week. A further hospital visit will be required this week to ensure there is no damage but at present he is struggling to walk on it.
Chris Timms is currently sidelined with a knee injury.
The Monarchs will have captain Scott Millward and Ricki Johnson leading the side, whilst Winwood and Groves will be expected to score heavily and young Ewan Hancox continues to push for first team status.
This Saturday (23rd April) sees the Veteran Monarchs travel to newly reformed Stoke for the opening round of the Eurovets Series.
The series, held over 9 rounds, will feature Birmingham’s reigning over 40s and over 50s champions, Mark Winwood and Steve Hodgkinson. They will be looking to start the new year with a strong defence of their titles, whilst multi champion Paul Timms is always a threat and very much in form.
This Saturday also sees round 2 of the BYJL this time held at the East Park venue.
Training sessions continue every Tuesday (seniors) and Thursdays (juniors) 6-8PM, all abilities welcome.
