MATCH REPORT: Lions roar to home win

Hethersett Hawks visited Hellingly on Sunday, and due to rider unavailability were hugely understrength. However, with a bit of juggling around of riders some good racing ensued.

Hellingly Lions started the division one fixture strongly with all the top 6 racing to 7-3 victories. After 3 heats the score was 21-9 and that allowed the Lions to use all 9 riders in the squad.

Neil Hollebon, Jesse Moore and Martyn Hollebon all only had 2 programmed rides as the rest were shared amongst the lower order. Jesse appeared again in the nominated heat 16, with Hellingly securing the match by 97-61.

Hellingly scores: Steven Archer 22, Edward Ridley 20, Jamie Cox 11+2, Jesse Moore 11+1, Neil Hollebon 7+1, Jamie Morley 7+1 Martyn Hollebon 6+2, Tristan Bassett 8, Etienne Patel 5.

Attention then turned to the Division 2 fixture, Hethersett used the same 6 riders as the previous match, whilst Hellingly rested Neil Hollebon, Jesse Moore and vets Edward Ridley, who had scored a 5 ride maximum in the first fixture, and Martyn Hollebon. Both veteran riders had only returned home in the early hours of the morning from the Eurovets series round in Glasgow with great individual results.

Hellingly handed a debut to young Ethan Page at the tender age of just 12 years old. Ethan ended up achieving a great score of 10+1 from 6 rides, including his first paid win after Hethersett rider Owen Wells had a coming together with Tristan Bassett. The final score for the division two fixture was Hellingly 85 – 74 Hethersett.

Hellingly scorers: Steven Archer 19+1, Jamie Cox 18, Tristan Bassett 15+2, Etienne Patel 15, Ethan Page 10+1, Jamie Morley 8+2.
