MATCH REPORT: Hethersett take advantage of under strength Whirlwinds
Hethersett Hawks/Myhill Decorators entertained reigning South East champions Ipswich Whirlwinds and came out on top in a match between two under-strength teams.
Indeed the Whirlwinds had to race with a rider short and that proved their undoing as the Hawks rode sensibly to capitalise on any weaknesses.
Heat 3 gave Hethersett the lead when Harley Hamill and Leigh Cossey engineered a 6-3 win over top Ipswich star Josh Brooke.
A mistake just before the interval gave Ipswich an opening so they only trailed by four points. Cossey was again on hand to manoeuvre Scott Grimes into a 7-3 win over Jamie Chittock in heat 13 which virtually sealed victory.
Ben Harvey kept the visitors’ hopes alive by a superb pass on Olly Buxton and the match was rounded off with a popular win by Glyn Morgan, making his first-team return after over 30 years.
