PREVIEW: British Youth and Junior League round one
The British Youth and Junior League is back this weekend, with a slightly new look to the age categories.
Leicester, Astley & Tyldesley, Kesgrave and Newport (Underwood) host the first of four regional rounds.
As the sport is brought in line with British Cycling’s other disciplines, the age categories are U8, U10, U12, U14 boys, Junior (U18) and Girls. It was decided to move up to U18, rather than down to U16 for 2017 to avoid excluding riders. However, with potential for not enough riders for fill two U16 and U18 categories, they have been merged into the Junior category and will be reviewed again at the end of the season.
Round one, which is open to all nationalities, will see many riders moving up a category and on to new challenges in Cycle Speedway’s flagship junior competition. Individual scores all add together to provide a team ranking at the end of the day, with Poole winners overall in 2016.
Riders just need to turn up on the day and sign in with the BYJL event coordinator to register from 11:30am, with the U8 and U10 categories starting at 12 noon, except in the North and Scotland, which is 1pm start.
Good luck to all riders, enjoy your racing, make new friends and give it your best shot.
