CLUB NEWS: Hawks success in Norfolk Go Ride Championships

Hethersett Hawks/Myhill Decorators had eight riders contesting the Norfolk Go-Ride Championships in sweltering conditions at Eaton Park.

The riders came back with four of the seven titles – Owen Wells retained both his Under 16 and Under 19 titles and George Larter also retained his Under-10 Championship. All three were unbeaten in their title defences. Katie Adams was also victorious in the Women’s event while there were top-three places for Glyn Morgan (Veterans), Leigh Cossey and Wells (Senior), Daniel Longlands (Under 16) and Giles Awbery and Larter (Under 13).

23 riders braved 27 degrees heat to compete where seven categories were staged and, amazingly, five 2016 Champions retained their titles – Paddy Wenn (Senior and Veterans), Owen Wells (Under 19 and Under 16) and George Larter (Under 10). That left just two events to see new champions in Katie Adams (Women) and Tom Blackmore (Under 13s).

The event proved how successful the two Norfolk Clubs have been in recruiting and providing racing for expanding memberships plus working together. The next Go-Ride Grand Prix event is on Wednesday June 28th at Harford Park (7pm) – a circuit that will be new to many of the riders.

Meanwhile three Hethersett members have been named in the Ireland squads to contest the Home Nations Championship in Bury (Greater Manchester) in July – Harley Hamill and Dan Butler will represent the senior team while Katie Adams is in the junior squad.

All three will be in action for the Hawks this Sunday when they take on neighbours Norwich in the South East and Eastern Leagues at the memorial Playing Field (2pm).
