MATCH REPORT: Winwood moves into the top 3 in Eurovets series

Mark Winwood (pictured left in cover photo) moved into third place in the Eurovets 40s series finishing third in the A final at East London on Saturday. Mark took 3 victories on his way to fourteen points in the heats.

Reigning veterans world champion, Craig Marchant, took his second victory this series to move atop the leader board on 92 points, Winwood on 83.

The unluckiest rider of the day was Paul Timms, who had battled hard in the 60s A final chasing race and series leader Phil Hemming. However, Hemming fell right in the path of Timms on the second bend on the last lap bringing down his rival with the remaining riders passing to steal the win.

With the rule seemingly clear on an incident changing the course of the race, Timms was expected to be awarded the win, however the race was declared as they passed the finish line with Timms a despondent fourth place finisher.

Timms still won the the 50s B final for some consolation, with Hodgkinson third. Round 5 moves to Newport.

Last Birmingham had a visit from Dorrington Academy who came to try the sport. So impressed were some of the youngsters and parents that around a dozen have started training with the club.

The Monarchs are due a visit from North Birmingham Academy next week as the club continue to spread the news about the sport.

On Saturday the club will be taking part in the Sutton Games, whilst on Sunday they entertain Newport in the Anglo-Welsh cross over league.
