2017 BRITISH INDIVIDUALS: Weekend Preview

The 2017 British Individual Weekend kicks off tomorrow (Saturday) and a full schedule of Cycle Speedway racing is on offer.

The CS nationals weekend begins in Leicester, where the CS Little League finals start proceedings. U8s, U10s boys and U10 girls opening the festival of racing from 10am.

Next up, the U12 Girls and U12 Boys finals take place, followed by U14 Boys and U14 Girls closing the day at Leicester, before racing moves over to Birmingham and East Park respectively, where the first open semis take place at 7pm at both tracks.

On Sunday at East Park, after the junior pre-qualifier at 11:30am, the U16 Girls final takes place, with Macie Schmidt hot favourite to retain her title at 12:30pm. The Junior (U18) final follows at 2pm, with a number of riders capable of taking the title, none more so than reigning European champion, Brandon Whetton in his final year as a junior.

The Vets take over after the junior final, with Over 40s, Over 50s and Over 60s finals respectively. Steve Harris will be among the favourites in the Over 40s as he faces another hectic weekend competing in both the vets and open.

Closing the day on Sunday will be the second open semi finals at Birmingham and East Park, again the late start time of 7pm deciding who will be in the 16 in the final the following day.

Wednesfield host the prestigious “finals” day, where the Archie Wilkinson sponsored U16 Boys event opens the day with a pre-qualifier at 11am, the final takes place at 2pm. The Dash Trophies Women’s final takes place at 12noon, where reigning champion Lauren Hookway will have a fair number of challengers to her title.

Then closing the weekend is the open final at 4pm, sponsored by 1st Access UK.

The open is likely to be another close encounter with many riders in with a shot of the title. Josh Brooke has emerged as the favourite in many circles after a successful campaign so far, with reigning champion, Ben Mould, also highly tipped on social media. Paul Heard, Myke Grimes, Chris Timms, Lewis Osborne and 2015 champion, Zac Payne are also among to people’s favourites.
