MATCH REPORT: Bury v Stockport
Report by John Burston
Last Sunday 19th May, Bury Cycle Speedway Club played host to our neighbours from Stockport in three league matches in div 1, 2, and 3.
First up was the div 3 match for under 13s, in which Bury took a resounding win 54 points to 16, with Bury’s two newest riders the Mohammadi twin sisters Shara and Saha both riding to 9 points each the same as their ages, the 3 Dunphy Brothers , all put in good scores to ensure the win, with Ewan Ferieria taking a maximum 16 points for Stockport.
In the Div 1 match both teams have struggled recently to field full teams but this week it was Stockport who were one rider short.
Bury went into an early lead, but could not open the gap to make it comfortable, and when Adam Turnbull got a gate exclusion, the advantage swung Stockport’s way, and two heats later another maximum heat win put Stockport ahead which was repeated in heat nine and Stockport were six ahead. Bury managed to pull it back to 5 points down by heat 18 when Kris Ramsden and Will Owens took a 7-2 heat win over Ben Higham to take a drawn match 86 points each.
A very close and sporting match with Stockport having the advantage in gating strength on the day but the one rider short made all the difference.
Bury were probably the unluckiest with exclusions and falls, but a draw was probably the right and fairest result on the day.
Bury 86: Neil Howarth 18/1,Will Owens 17/3:Kris Ramsden 15/1:Adam Taylor 14/3,Adam Turnbull,10/1: Eryk Mataram 7/2 Kaysar Mohammadi,5/1.
Stockport 86, Jake Read 23/1:Ben Higham,21/1, Louis Wright,19/1, Terry Norman,15/3 Ewan Ferieara, 8.
The Div 2 match was another tense and close affair with both teams ending up with a score of 59 points each for an unprecedented second drawn score line. Bury won the match due to Stockport having to field two ineligible riders,113/59.but Stockport deserve the appreciation of the Bury club due to the sporting manner in which they rode the match, against much younger and less experienced opponents.
Any local Bury persons fancying a trial at Cycle Speedway come down to Goshen Sports Centre Thursdays at 6pm for a free session with bikes and helmets supplied and experienced Coaches in attendance.
