MATCH REPORT: A&T Go-Ride League Round 1
Report by Mike Hack
Astley & Tyldesley staged Round 1 of the A&T Go-Ride League at a warm and dry Gin Pit, on Tuesday evening. After two Covid affected years, A&T re-instated the team element, to complement the individual Grand Prix series. Riders were split into three teams, each wearing the splendid tops which were supplied by Wigan Council’s Brighter Borough Fund, through the local Councillors, in 2019. A ladder format of racing was used, to ensure that the younger riders were kept in different races from the older riders.
19 riders contested 20 heats of racing, with the final placings and scores determined by the riders’ positions in the final round of races. Duncan Whalley took the main final victory, ahead of Frank White, Josh Pilkington and Kieran Fallon. Astley Hurricanes, aided by the luxury of a seventh rider, took the team win, in the opening round of the six round series.
