CLUB NEWS: Mixed fortunes for Hawks in British Championships
HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES had three riders taking part in the British Individual Championships weekend and they had mixed fortunes. Lola Martin repeated her podium place of last season with a third place in the Under-12 Girls at Wednesfield. She rode consistently in all her heats while other fancied riders had races they would wish to forget. This is a good achievement in her first year at this age group.
Glyn Morgan came away from Leicester a bit disappointed as he just missed out on a podium pace, finishing fourth in the Over-60s while Mason Martin came through qualifiers at Coventry in the Under-16s to take his place in the Final at Birmingham. Competition was intense and the top 10 riders were all covered by six points. Mason’s 12 points included a win in his final race and earned him joint 8th place overall – again his first year at that age group.
The Hawks get back to League action by welcoming Great Blakenham to the Memorial Playing Field on Sunday (2 p.m.) for Division 2 and Youth League fixtures. The previous day several Hawks will travel to East London for a South-East Grand Prix and the next Norfolk Grand Prix for the younger age groups is at Harford Park on Wednesday 7th.
Prior to the British in the fourth round of the Norfolk Grand Prix for older categories held at Harford Park Lola won the Under-16s ahead of Yeva Makieieva while Paul Delaiche won the Senior category with Mason Martin runner-up and Dave Martin fourth.
