WEEKEND PREVIEW: BYJL National Round 4 plus Regional Racing

BYJL Preview sent in by Mike Hack

Astley & Tyldesley are hosting National Round 4 of the British Youth & Junior League series at Gin Pit on Saturday. Racing starts at 10.00 am and will run well into the afternoon, with Britain’s best youth and junior riders in action.

Suffolk club, Kesgrave, are pretty much nailed on to win the BYJL team competition, to add to the overall British Club Championship title they won in June. Poole are currently second in the eight teams table, one point ahead of Astley & Tyldesley. There are still seven individual categories to be decided, so there is everything to race for on the day.

In the Little League GP’s, Thomas Comben (u-8) and Luca El-Labany (u-10) have both won all 3 rounds so far. The BYJL GP’s are more closely contested. Oliver Edmunds leads Frank White in the u-12s, by 1 point. In the u-14s, Ryker Jolly holds a 3 points lead over Shaun Kell. Torsten Jolly is 2 points clear of Charlie Parr in the u-16 series. Kielan Burton is more comfortable in the u-18s category, 7 points clear of Jack Reynolds. Maddie Saunders is the Girls leader, 4 points ahead of Lily Parr.

With football and cricket matches also taking place at Gin Pit, car parking will be at a premium, so locals are asked to walk or cycle to the track and visitors encouraged to car share, where possible.

There are also a few regional league matches taking place on Sunday and in the North & Scotland league Fife and Edinburgh meet home and away in. Edinburgh need to win both matches to keep themselves in contention for the Division 2 play-offs whilst 2 wins for Fife will see them into the play-offs as winners of the Scottish section. The action gets underway at midday at Redbraes Park before the 2 teams head to Queen Anne School for a 3pm start. Meanwhile in the South-East League there are 2 matches in both Division 2 and the Youth League. Great Blakenham make the trip to Hellingly for a match which was postponed earlier in the season while there is a Norfolk derby as Norwich make the trip to Hethersett for a match that was postponed in July due to very hot weather
