CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars April Round-up
The opening round of the EuroVets took place at Birmingham on Saturday April 8th and this saw Paddy Wenn and Steve Copping make the trip. Steve scored 11 points in the Over 35’s/Over 40’s heats which wasn’t enough for him to qualify for the finals whilst 16 points for Paddy in the Over 50’s/ Over 60’s heats saw him qualify for the Over 50’s A Final where he finished 4th.
The following Saturday saw thw 2nd round of the South East Grand Prix series take place at Great Blakenham and Norwich had representation in the Senior and Over 40’s categories. In the Senior event Harrie Everiss scored 11 points before going on to finish 3rd in the B Final whilst Jamie Medler scored 6 points and finished 2nd in the D Final. Harry is in joint 13th place overall whilst Jamie is 18th. in the Over 40’s Paddy scored 14 points and took his 2nd win from 2 rounds in the A Final whereas Steve scored 8 points and won the B Final. Paddy leads the Over 40’s overall whilst Steve sits in 3rd. The next round of this competition is on Saturday May 20th at Ipswich
Saturday 22nd April should have seen 3 Norwich riders make the trip to Wednesfield for the Dash Trophies Midland Grand Prix for Under 14, Women and Veterans with Will Blackmore due to ride the Under 14’s and Paddy & Steve due to race in the Veterans event. All 3 ended up not racing as Will picked up a knee injury at school the previous day which ruled him out whilst the Veterans event was cancelled on the Tuesday before due to insufficient riders.
The following Saturday saw the 2nd EuroVets round at East London where Paddy & Steve were in action. Steve scored 11 points in the Over 35’s/Over 40’s heats which was enough to qualify him for both of the B finals where he was 4th in the Over 35’s and 3rd in the Over 40’s, these results putting him in 6th place overall in both categories. Paddy scored 14 points in the Over 50’s/Over 60’s heats which saw him qualify for the Over 50’s B Finla where he finished 4th after a fall. This leaves him in 4th place overall in the Over 50’s going into the next round at East Park on Saturday May 13th
The following day saw the opening round of the Norfolk Go-Ride and Grand Prix series take place at Harford Park. The Under 12 & Under 14 categories were raced together and this saw Zachery Eastwood finish as runner-up in the Under 14’s A Final as well as being the highest placed Under 12 rider. The Under 16 & Senior categories were raced together also and Jamie finished 3rd in the A Final and 2nd Senior. Jack Weston finished 2nd in the B Final. The next round of this competition takes place on Wednesday May 10th at Hethersett
Norwich stage their 1st home match of the season this coming Sunday (7th May) when Great Blakenham are the visitors for a South-East League Division 2 match at 2pm. Training sessions take place most Tuesday evenings
