CLUB NEWS: Norwich Stars Latest round-up

Round 5 of the Norfolk G.o-Ride and grand Prix series was staged at eaton Park on Sunday 25th June. As with the previous rounds the Under 8’s and Under 10’s raced together and Thomas King was 3rd in the C Final. The Under 12’s and Under 14’s also raced together and Zachery Eastwood was 3rd in the A Final. In the Under 16/Senior category Harry Everiss was 2nd in the A Final with Jamie Medler 3rd. Jack Western won the B Final and David Adams was 2nd.

The following Sunday saw a Norfolk derby in South-East Division 2 as Hethersett made the visit to Eaton Park in a match which was won by Norwich 96-84. Harry scored 19+1, Gary Colby 19, Paddy Wenn 18+2, Lee Grange 17, David 9+2, Tom Blackmore 9 and Jack 5.

Round 5 of the South-East Grand Prix was staged at Somersham on Saturday 8th July and Paddy scored 14 points in the Over 40’s heats before finishing as runner-up in the A Final. Racing on his former home track Steve Copping was also in the Over 40’s and scored 6 points in the heats before winning the B Final. Paddy still leads the overall standings whilst Steve’s B Final win puts him back up to 3rd overall going into the next round which is at East London on Saturday August 5th.

The following day Norwich made the visit to Kesgrave for a South-East Division 2 match and were heavily defeated by 104 points to 55. Lee top scored with 15 points whilst Jamie scored 11, Paddy 8+1, David 8, jack 7 and Zachery 6.

Wednesday 12th July saw round 6 of the Norfolk Go-Ride and grand Prix series staged at Hethersett and in the Under 8/Under 10 category Jonah Hockey finished 3rd in the B Final. Zachery won the A Final in the Under 12/Under 14 category whilst Jamie & Harrie finished 3rd and 4th respectively in the Under 16/Senior A Final. Round 7 of this competition is scheduled for Sunday September 3rd at Eaton Park

Paddy made the trip to Poole on Saturday July 15th for the Ade Gale Veterans Laurels event and scored 15 points in his semi-final to qualify for the final where he scored 9 points.

Paddy and Steve were due to race in Round 5 of the EuroVets at Newport on Saturday 22nd July but both decided not to make the trip, Steve due to the trains being on strike and Paddy due to the inclement weather. Paddy was in action the following day as part of the Norwich team which lost 72-87 to Ipswich in a South-East Division 2 match. Harrie top scored with 13 points, David scored 12+2, Zachery a very impressive 12+1, Paddy also scored 12+1, Gary scored 12, jamie scored 10+3 and Jack scored 1. Norwich’s next league match is not until Sunday August 20th when they visit Great Blakenham.
