MATCH REPORT: BYJL Regional Round 4 at Hull

The Hull Cycle Speedway Club staged the fourth round of the British Youth & Junior League on a showery day at The Hessle Raceway.



There was a disappointing turnout of 18 riders with half of these from the home club. In the under 8’s & under 10’s Lincoln Ackroyd of Sheffield went through the card unbeaten while Heckmondwike’s James Vanner finished in second place in front of Astley & Tyldesley’s Elijah Rechembei and Hull’s eight year old Alexis Woodcock. The under 12’s was the best supported meeting with Bury’s Bobby Dunphy taking the honours in front of Astley & Tyldesley’s Josh Pilkington and Hull’s Harry Gibson after the three had competed together in qualifying with the home sides Ellwood Harrison clinching fourth spot. Hull’s Jayden Bennett beat Heckmondwikes Joseph Green in a good race to decide the ‘B’ final.



The under 16’s & under 18’s saw Hull’s under 16 Noah Lyon race unbeaten while in the under 14’s Sheffield’s Oliver Banyard won the under 14’s from Hull’s Spencer Glenton and Astley & Tyldesley’s Oscar Belt. It was good to see four girls competing in their section with Kacey Bennett of Hull winning the final after Sheffield’s Lacey Ackroyd had won all the qualifying races. Hull’s Sophia Temple beat her sister Aalayah, who was making her debut, for third place. The team competition was won by Hull who qualified for the National stages along with Astley & Tyldesley who finished in third place on the day behind Sheffield.
