OBITUARIES: Stephen Goodwin & Paul West

33/18 News has learned of the sad news of the passing of both Stephen Goodwin and Paul West.

Paul Matthews posted the following about Stephen’s passing on Facebook’s “I was (or still am) a Cycle Speedway rider !!!”:

“Sad news from Swindon CSC is the passing of Stephen Goodwin following a short illness. I first raced with Stephen at our local club, the Techno Tigers, before we both joined the Swindon Monarchs in the early 70s at the Oasis. Stephen later went on to race for the Swindon Sprockets Speedway team at Blunsdon.”

Paul West, who died on Sunday, was the Cycle Speedway Co-Ordinator for British Cycling from 2010 to 2017. It is understood that he was in France on a cycling holiday, failed to turn up at breakfast on Sunday morning and was found unresponsive on his bathroom floor.

Condolences to the family and friends of Paul West as well as Stephen. Funeral details for both will be published as soon as they are available
