A busy weekend of Cycle Speedway gets underway tomorrow with the 7th and final round of the South-East Grand Prix at Ipswich. The Under 8’s category has already been clinched by Great Blakenham’s Niall Coughlan with Kesgrave’s Sienna Hammond and Ruby Rawlings all but guaranteed to finish 2nd and 3rd respectively. The Under 10’s category will see Kesgrave’s Freddie Mower crowned champion if he qualifies for the A Final with the other podium placings to be decided between the Kesgrave duo of Archie Rawlings and Lincoln Powling as well as Hethersett’s Nyla El-Labany. The latter 2 riders have contested all 6 rounds so far so will have to drop their worst score. The Under 12’s category has the top 3 already guaranteed in Hethersett’s Luca El-Labany and the Kesgrave duo of Theo Case and Oliver Spurgeon but which order they finish up in could also come down to the worst score being discarded for all 3 riders. The Under 14’s also have their top 3 confirmed as the Kesgrave trio of Charlie Spurgeon, Connor Jarrett and Isaac Powling. If all 3 qualify for the A Final then they will finish in that order overall even after the worst score is removed for all of them. Hellingly’s Harry Sefton has wrapped up the Under 16’s category even if his club colleagues Dylan Geer or Paul Edwards win the A Final they cannot catch Sefton as their scores will not be enough after their worst score is removed. The Girls category also has its top 3 confirmed in champion Amberley Gant (Kesgrave), runner-up Ella Case (Kesgrave) and 3rd placed Maisie Baker (Ipswich). Finally the Over 40’s has its top 2 confirmed in Steve Copping (Norwich) and Steve Hammond (Kesgrave) but which way round they finish in will be decided by the result of Saturday’s event as well as Copping losing his worst score.
Saturday also sees the final round of the EuroVets take place at East Newport as well as 2 National League matches with Poole travelling firstly to Kesgrave and then to Ipswich, the latter match taking place after the South-East Grand Prix. If Poole win all three of these fixtures they will be champions, however If Poole lose two or more of these fixtures Birmingham will be champions. If Poole lose one of their matches this weekend and win the other 2 then they will be tied at the top of the table with Birmingham. The champions will then be decided by match points difference.
Sunday’s other fixtures see Round 5 of the Northern 4’s and Junior Grand prix at Sheffield’s Graves Tennis Centre. 2 matches take place in South-East Division 2 with a Norfolk derby at Hethersett as the Hawks take on Norwich whilst Ipswich welcome the Kesgrave Pumas to Whitton Sports Centre. Coventry have a double heaer of Midland League action against firstly Birmingham and then Wednesfield
