WEEKEND PREVIEW: BYJL returns plus a busy day of regional racing

A busy weekend of Cycle Speedway kicks off tomorrow (Saturday 5th April) with the return of the Bri tish Youth & Junior League with the first regional rounds taking place at Great Blakenham (South East), Coventry (Midlands), Bury (North & Scotland) and Poole (South & South Wales). The action at Poole gets underway at 11am with Great Blakenham & Coventry starting at 12 noon and the start time at Bury is 1pm. The Great Blakenham round will also count as the opening round of the South East Grand Prix series
There is action in all 4 regions on Sunday plus the National league gets underway also. The South & South Wales region is the busiest as Newport welcome Poole to the track alongside the Wales National Velodrome whilst Southampton begin the defence of the South & South Wales regional title with a trip to Exeter. The opening National League fixture also takes place at Horspath where the NL newcomers entertain Ipswwich. The action at all 3 tracks gets underway at 2pm
The Midland region sees Round 1 of the Midland Battle take place at Leicester. This competition will feature the host club, Coventry, Birmingham and Wednesfield with 6 riders in each team but it can be completed with 4. Racing starts at Glover Park at 1pm
The North & Scotland League sees a Yorkshire derby take place at the Hessle Raceway as Hull welcome Sheffield for matches in Divisions 1, 2 and 3. The Division 3 match will be first up at 1pm followed at 2pm by the Division 2 match and the Division 1 match at 3.30pm. Meanwhile Astley & Tyldesley welcome Fife to Gin Pit in a Division 1 fixture with a 1pm start
Moving on to the South-East League and Kesgrave begin the defence of their Division 2 title with a visit from Hethersett starting at 2pm. The 2 teams will also race a Youth League match which is scheduled to start at 3,30pm. meanwhile Great Blakenham also have Norfolk opposition as Norwich make the trip to the South East Regional Centre, also with a 2pm start
