Report by Andy Schofield

Hull staged two meetings over the weekend which were both impacted by Storm Amy.  On Saturday they staged the third National round of The British Youth & Junior League with track still damp from the previous days rain and gales force winds being joined by heavy rain as the racing started!  In the Little League Arlo Scrivens of Wednesfield won all of his qualifying races and the ‘A’ final with Sienna Hammond and Ruby Rawlings in second and third in the under 8’s.  Oscar Bartlett of Poole won all of his qualifying races in the under 10’s but it was Kesgrave’s Freddie Mower who won the final from team mate Archie Rawlings and Heckmondwike’s James Vanner.

The conditions had dictated that races were started with a whistle and a fly across tape and the BY&JL under 12’s was taken in fine style by Hull’s Ellwood Harrison who won all his qualifying rides and the ‘A’ final from series leader Oliver Spurgeon of Kesgrave and the home sides Jayden Bennett.  The under 14’s saw both Sheffield’s Oliver Banyard and Hull’s Harry Gibson race unbeaten in qualifying but Oliver took the ‘A’ final from Harry with Kesgrave’s Isaac Powling in third place.  Riders were becoming almost unidentifiable in the muddy conditions and the girls meeting was a hard fought event with Hethersett’s Lola Martin winning the ‘A’ final from Hull’s Kacey Bennett and Maisy Baker of Ipswich.  The 16/18 year olds event was headed by 18 year olds Oliver Saunders of Poole and Corey Burt of Wednesfield with Oliver winning the ‘A’ final while Jude Wilcockson of Coventry won the under 16’s ‘A’ final from Kesgrave’s Charlie Spurgeon and Mitchell Baker of Ipswich.

Well done to all the riders who handled the weather and track conditions incredibly well and thanks to all the volunteers for braving the conditions.  The BY&JL was won on the day by Hull with 83 points from series leaders Kesgrave on 62 points.
