33/18 News has learned of the passing of both Archie Holyoake and Dave Feakes

Brian Buck posted the following regarding Archie on Facebook’s “I was (or still am) a Cycle Speedway Rider”:

“Very sorry to have to announce the death of pioneer rider Archie Holyoake who was associated with Sandwell for many years.

“Arch was a rider with Quinton Racers in the late 1940’s and returned to the sport as Team Manager of Sandwell in more recent times and was instrumental in persuading the club to change its name from Oldbury to Sandwell in 1980, and in the construction of and all the improvements at the track and the organising of the National Team Championships there.

“He was always a hard grafter and a genuine cycle speedway enthusiast for the whole of his long life and deserves to be remembered for this.

“My sincere condolences to his daughter Lydia and this sad time.”

Dave passed away in hospital on Thursday 9th October at the age of 79. He was a former manager of Kesgrave Panthers and served on the Suffolk Cycle Speedway Association. His funeral will be held tomorrow (Monday 27th October) at Seven Hills Crematorium, Nacton, Ipswich at 1.30pm
