MATCH REPORT: Whirlwinds set the benchmark in SE1
Ipswich Whirlwinds 120 – 89 Hethersett, South East League 1, Sunday 13th April 2014
Hethersett Hawks/Swinton & Co took their South East Division One 100% record to Ipswich to face the only other unbeaten side, Ipswich Whirlwinds.
Despite an excellent heat one 6-4 win, they were soon given a sharp lesson in powerful team racing as Ipswich won the next seven heats. A second heat win for Leigh Cossey gave Hethersett three shared heats in a row, but it was heat 13 before Lee Grange and Olly Buxton gave the Hawks their second 6-4 win. Superior fitness and sharpness began to show as Hethersett tailed off with four 7-3 defeats in the last five heats, the only consolation being a 7-3 win in heat 16 from Olly Riley and Dan Chambers. Ipswich, with four Elite League riders have certainly set the benchmark for Hethersett to aspire to.
