DMP: Round 5 Report
Torun 84 – 74 Świętochłowice
Częstochowa 84 – 76 Leszno
Ostrów 92 – 68 Gniezno
There were predictable home victories for title aspirants Torun and Ostrow in round 5 of the Polish league although TSZ were made to fight all the way by Swietochlowice who were without the services of talisman Steve Harris for the long journey north.
All eyes were on the third match at Czestochowa where the derby clash with fierce rivals Leszno contained added spice with the inclusion of World Champion Marcin Szymanski for the hosts against his former club.
With two points separating the teams with just nominated heats 14 and 15 remaining, Daniel Ordon and Tomasz Wlodarczyk took an important 6-4 win limiting the visitors chances to a draw at best in the final race of the match.
However Szymanski and Sebastion Paruzel had other ideas as they teamed up for a maximum race finale to the cheers of home fans while Leszno top scorer Michal Sassek angrily confronted the referee after trailing in for a solitary point (see picture).
