MATCH REPORT: Ipswich win to move to second in the table

Newport Cycle Speedway Club entertained Ipswich Eagles in an Elite League fixture, which resulted in a narrow 86 to 90 points win for the suffolk team.

The sizeable sundrenched crowd witnessed some terrific racing on the fast Welsh track. The Eagles edged in front with fine wins from Brooke and Chittock, and a tape infringement from Evans. Ipswich pulled further ahead with a maximum from Roberts and Mower to lead by 5 at the interval.

Newport bounced back after the break gaining two fine maximums from Carmichael/Evans and Herbert/Bozejewicz pairings, which made the scores level with the next few heats shared. An untimely leg exclusion from Herbert gave Ipswich the advantage so newport needed a maximum heat win in heat 18 to take the match. Although Bozejewicz won the heat, Evans try as he did, could not quite get into the second place required.

It was a fantastic match superbly refereed by Bob Prince. Ipswich are to be congratulated on a fine team performance by all 8, Newport gave it their all, but were not as good as their visitors on the first bends.
