REPORT: Manchester League U10 and U16 Individual Finals
Astley & Tyldesley hosted the u-10 and u-16 Manchester League Individual Finals at Gin Pit on Wednesday evening. Rain fell during the evening, but the track drained well and was in a really good, grippy condition.Despite four A&T regulars missing due to holidays, there were still 15 riders who lined up for the u-10s match. A&T’s Luke Hill led Bury’s Daniel Miller until the last half lap in heat 3, before Miller took the win. A&T’s John White pulled away to beat Miller convincingly in heat 7. Heat 13 was an important race, when the two unbeaten riders met and A&T’s Joe Quarmby had to record a personal best time to power round John White on the last half lap, to take the win. John White won his last race in another quick time, to finish on 19 points. The title decider came in heat 20, when Daniel Miller, on 15 points, lined up on the inside of the unbeaten Joe Quarmby. The Bury rider made the start, with Joe Quarmby chasing hard all the way. The pressure paid off, when Joe powered round on the outside on the last bend, to take the race win and the title, with a 20 points maximum score.
Joe Quarmby and 7 years old John White were clearly the two fastest riders on view, regularly posting winning times 3-4 seconds quicker than the rest of the field. They deservedly took winner and runner-up spot respectively. Daniel Miller kept on piling up the points and edged out Luke Hill to take 3rd place on the night.

Six riders lined up for the u-16s event. A&T’s Reece Pollitt easily beat his nearest rival, Adam Watson of Sheffield, in heat 1, with A&T’s Ciaran Collins winning heat 2 and Bury’s James Elston taking heat 3. The three race winners all met in heat 4, with Pollitt winning from the outside grid, from Elston and Collins. Pollitt was in a strong position to retain the title he won last year and he duly obliged with comfortable wins in his last two races. In the battle for the minor places, Watson beat Collins in heat 9, before lining up against Elston in the last race. Watson held off Elston to take the race win and secure 2nd place on the night, with Elston in 3rd place.
