WEEKEND PREVIEW: Final BYJL National Round and more regional racing

The weekend of Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th September kicks off with the final National Round of the British Youth & Junior League at Poole on Saturday, starting at 10am. Tom Parr (Kesgrave) in the Under 8’s, Roman Boaler (Horspath) in the Under 10’s and Frank White (Astley & Tyldesley) in the Under 12’s all won the 1st 3 rounds in their respective age groups and qualification for the A Final for all 3 riders will be enough to clinch their respective categories overall. Qualification for the A Final will also see Kesgrave’s Luca Woodhouse clinch the Under 14 category. Southampton’s Leon Penketh is the current Under 16 leader but Kesgrave’s Charlie Parr is just one point behind with the next 4 riders, Shaun Kell (Ipswich), Kenzie Bennett (Poole), Corey Burt (Wednesfield) and Oliver Saunders (Poole) all separated by 7 points. Poole’s Lexie Curtis can clinch the Girls category by qualifying for the A Final whilst in the Under 18’s category John White (Astley & Tyldesley) needs to outscore leader Noah Woodhouse (Kesgrave) by 4 Grand Prix points to clinch the overall win

Sunday’s action sees matches in the South East, North & Scotland and the South & South Wales regions. The South East region is the busiest as a total of 7 matches take place with 4 of those at Whitton Sports Centre where Ipswich entertain Kesgrave. There will be 2 Youth League matches, a Division 1 match (which will also count towards the National League) and a Division 2 match. Hellingly will be involved in the other 3 matches, 2 of which are in Division 2, as they head to Norfolk to face firstly the Norwich Stars at Eaton Park starting at 11am before moving on to Hethersett for a 2pm start. Hethersett and Hellingly will also contest a Youth League match.

The North & Scotland region has a total of 6 matches taking place and 3 of those will be at Goshen Sports Centre where Bury and Hull meet in all 3 Divisions. Astley & Tyldesley welcome Heckmondwike to Gin Pit for matches in Division 2 and 3 whilst Sheffield make the trip to the Exxon Fastbowl to take on Fife in Division 1.

The South & South Wales region sees 2 matches taking place with 2 of those at Southampton where Newport are the visitors in Division 1 and the Development League. outhampton will line-up with three British Champions in the Div 1 team Junior Champion Leon Penketh, Over 40’s Champion Gavin Wheeler and Women’s Champion Maddie Saunders. Meanwhile East Newport make the trip to the Wheels Centre to take on the Exeter Aces in Division 1
