PREVIEW: Elite League is back!
This weekend sees the return of the British Elite League and there’s some intriguing opening fixtures taking place at 2pm tomorrow.
Horspath v Poole
2014 champions Horspath, welcome 2013 champions Poole to the village. Both have foreign imports at their disposal, but it’s never always clear who will make the trip. Horspath will look to start where they left off, unbeaten in the whole of the 2014 series. While Poole will be buoyed by a better second half of the season after making a slow start. This match could be interesting!
Ipswich v Sheffield
Ipswich made an explosive start last season and will want to kick off on a positive note again tomorrow. They face a strong Sheffield side at full strength, who welcome Radek Handke back into the fold after missing most of the 2014 season. Josh Brooke scored well for the Eagles last term and will need to deliver similar performances to lead the young Eagles forward. Appearances throughout the year from Adam Peck and Lewis Roberts will be an added bonus for the Suffolk team.
Wednesfield v Newport
The Aces have brought in a host of riders for the new campaign, with Bobby McMillan and Przmyslaw Binkowski among the big names arriving at Ashmore Park. Newport see Jack Harrold returning from his travels, he will be a big boost to the Welsh side, who had some good moments last year but struggled a little with depth of riders. Anyone travelling to the West Midlands in the Elite League will have it tough going, Newport will need all of their riders at their best to make a good start to the campaign.
Other racing tomorrow sees round one of the Women’s League taking place at Sheffield, while Bury host the Northern Fours, featuring Bury Comets, Bury Meteors, Heckondwike, Hull, Stockport and Astley and Tyldesley – as well as the Northern U19s and division 2 individuals. Finally, Norwich and Hethersett host some Go-Ride action in Norfolk.
Safe journey to all travelling this weekend, let battle commence!
