MATCH REPORT: Go-Ride “Bring a friend” at A&T
Astley and Tyldesley hosted Round 2 of the A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix series at Gin Pit on Tuesday.
With the theme being “Bring a Friend”, there were a few welcome new faces in the 20 rider field. Unfortunately, Charlie Burgess had to withdraw with a broken arm, sustained in an accident before racing started. Our best wishes go to Charlie, who faces an operation today.
The usual practice of handicap racing to cater for a range of ages and abilities was applied, with all the youngsters enjoying 20 heats of racing.
Three riders tied on 14 points, so a run-off for 1st place was run. 5 years old Frank White took the win, racing ahead of 7 year old Tom Beeley and 6 years old Sabrina Evans.
Suggestions are invited from parents, officials and riders for a theme to adopt for Round 3 of the series, to be held on Tuesday 19th July.

It was good to see Gareth Paine in attendance, albeit on crutches, following an operation to mend a broken leg sustained playing rugby last Saturday. The injury has ruled Painey out of playing for the England Lions Rugby League team in Canada in August, as well as from riding cycle speedway for the foreseeable future. Best wishes from all at the club for a full recovery.
Racing tonight (Wednesday) sees the staging of Round 4 of the Manchester League Grand Prix series at Gin Pit. U-10 registrations close at 6.45 pm, with the first race is at 7 pm.
