CLUB NEWS: Birmingham host second city trophy
Birmingham Monarchs sign off for 2016 with their annual Second City Trophy on Sunday (30th October) at Perry Hall Playing Fields.
Three meetings are included to make it a bumper day of racing. The meetings will consist of the kids, juniors and seniors.
Racing gets underway with the youngsters at 12 noon and it’s expected the majority of the Monarchs young stars will be able to race. Marc Phipps along with William Arkinstall will start as favourites.
The juniors will include 15 year old Jake Steel who has made rapid progress in the sport after only starting racing this year. He will race against some tough competition with invites being sent out to some of the best teenagers around the sport.
In the seniors we will be looking for a new winner with last year’s champion Bobby McMillan back home in Australia. However it is hoped another of his fellow Aussies will be present to try and keepk that tradition going!
Home hopes will rest with current world number 2 Chris Timms, whilst Ricki Johnson has had a superb season for the Monarchs. It’s hoped the majority of the senior riders will be included in what is expected to be a class line up.
Timms is the brainchild of the competition as he continues to strive to put together the strongest line up possible. News of who is riding is being kept top secret but we can be sure of a quality day of racing.
Birmingham will then bring down the curtain on what has been a disappointing one for the club as a whole with only the juniors impressing in the junior league. Confirmation is waiting on the juniors being crowned junior champions.
Midweek training has now finished for the season although training will still continue on Sundays from 1pm. As usual bikes and equipment are available to use if anyone wants to try.
The Birmingham presentation night will be on Friday 18th November from 7.30PM. Tickets will be £5 per person or a family ticket for £12. Pay on the night.
