MATCH REPORT: Late Aces comeback defeats Monarchs

Birmingham Monarchs visited Wednesfield on Sunday, in what was always going to be a close and hard fought fixture. Both teams did not fail to produce.

First up was division 3 and the youngsters. There was some excellent racing from both teams and it was great to see the future of both clubs so strong. Birmingham emerged victorious by 80 to 70.

The division 2 match was just as exciting, with some great racing from both teams. Both Winwoods for Birmingham looked strong and are developing nicely, which will please the Welsh management. For Wednesfield, there were stand out performances from Adam, Georgia, Alex and Ellis. Wednesfield came out stronger and led all the way finishing winners 86-63.

The division 1 match was a pearler. Wednesfield took an early lead but Birmingham hit back in heat 3, before a selection of stalemates kept the teams level until heat 8, when Birmingham edged in front after a 6-4 heat advantage. The Monarchs extended their lead in heat 12, only for Wednesfield to peg them back to one point with a 7-3 in heat 14.

Two more 6-4s for Wednesfield left Birmingham needing a 7-3 victory to win the match in heat 18, but Nathan Groves picked up an exclusion for excessive force, allowing the Aces to finish on a 7-2 and secure the points in a match that was a great spectacle for onlookers.
