CLUB NEWS: Junior Monarchs race to second in Leicester
Birmingham Monarchs Cycle Speedway club juniors were in Leicester on Saturday for the re-arranged 2nd round of the Youth Junior League (BYJL). With one round remaining after Leicester championship places were still up for grabs. Several Monarch youngsters are still very much in contention for a podium place.
First up were the U8’s with Samuel Price currently in 2nd place. He saved his best race for the A final where he chased hard for the victory but in the end had to settle for 2nd. He is now well clear in 2nd place but 7 points behind top place.
The U10’s were next up with Issy Buet Gannon having her best meeting so far taking 3rd place in the C final. The U12’s were next on track with reigning champion Connor Steel needing big points if he was to stay in contention again in 2018.
Steel was joint 2nd highest scorer on the day on 13 points with team mate Charlie Buet Gannon as both comfortably qualified for the A final. Yet again it was Leicester pocket rocket Kyle Wells who took victory, now 3 on the bounce to move close to the title. Connor meanwhile took a 3rd straight 2nd place of the season and is now 15 points behind Wells.
Charlie rode well and a fall in the final restricted his tally but is still 3rd overall. Birmingham had no other riders in the other categories with Wednesfield’s Ellis Richmond (U14), Georgia Burt (Girls), and Tyler Bould (U18) making it a successful day for the Wolverhampton based club.
Birmingham girl riders did race in a ladies event in Newport also on Saturday with Bekah Humphries and Natalie Timms both scoring 12 points, finishing joint 8th.
