MATCH REPORT: Sheffield heap more misery on Stockport

Stockports final Northern League Two match brought another defeat, 44-70 by Sheffield Stars, meaning Stockport’s miserable season ends with no wins from matches in Northern League One and Two, in league two it’s fourteen losses. Sheffield’s win moves them up to fourth, overtaking Edinburgh Falcons, and means one win from the home matches on Sunday will confirm fourth (Hull are out of reach in third).
Stockport had just three riders and were unable to win any heats, the best was 5-5 shared races in heats 4, 6 and 7. Louis Wright won four of his six races, losing twice to Kielan Burton. Kielan himself lost twice to Ben Higham (his two race successes). Laura Watson and Niamh Morton both won races, benefiting from the sportsmanship of Ben Higham. Luke Morton was the only Sheffield rider not to win a race, being content with providing race assists (of which he had four from six races).

Scorers

Stockport – Ben Higham 14, Ewan Ferreira 8, Louis Wright 22.

Sheffield Stars – Laura Watson 19+2, Niamh Morton 17+3, Kielan Burton 21+1, Luke Morton 13+4

James Farrell made sure Stockport had some success on the night, with a win in the league three match as Sheffield were unable to get any under 13’s to travel for the midweek match. Stockport’s win takes them above Fife and Sheffield, but the Steel City side have two home matches to reclaim a mid table position.
