CLUB NEWS: Hawks finally stage a team match at Home
HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES finally got to stage a team match at the Memorial Playing Field for the first time since late 2019 when Ipswich paid a visit in the South East Leagues. However, the weather did try to intervene with heavy showers delaying the start of both matches but the track stood up well and some excellent racing took place.
Ipswich were too strong in depth for a depleted Hawks in the Combination Division fixture with Leugh Cossey the only home race winner denting the maximum hopes of all bar Ben Clarke. Ben Loombe and Paul Delaiche also had their moments and were unlucky not to score more.
HETHERSETT 64 IPSWICH 94
(Leigh Cossey 18, Ben Loombe 12+1, Paul Delaiche 11, Daniel Martin 8+1, Mason Martin 8, McKenzie Loombe 4, Aiesha Musa 3)
Despite a heavy fall in the first match McKenzie Loombe took his place in the Youth team match and he and Mason Martin scored heavily against a five-rider visiting team to see the Hawks youth team to their first victory by seven points. Aiesha Musa certainly played a vital role too consistently taking second places. With two heats to go four points separated the teams but an exclusion for an Ipswich rider after a high-speed collision gave the Hawks a 6-3 win to secure victory with a race to go.
