CLUB NEWS: A busy weekend for the Stars to Kick off 2022

Norwich Stars opened their competitive action for 2022 with 3 riders making the trip to Leicester for the Neil Lester Benefit Meetings. The Veterans event saw Paddy Wenn, Gary Colby and Rory Freeman represent the Stars and it was Paddy who won the event with a 20 point maximum. Gary finished in a tie for 5th with 14 points whilst Rory managed 9 points to finish 13th. The way the draw worked out pitched all 3 riders in heat 14 which Paddy won from Rory with Gary last. Paddy then rode in the Over 40’s event, scoring 9 points to finish 12th

The following day saw Norwich open their South-East League campaign with a trip to Great Blakenham in Division 1, Division 2 and the Youth League. In the Division 1 match the Stars found themselves on the wrong end of a 99-61 scoreline. Shaun Kell scored 14 points whilst Jamie Medler scored 12, Gary 9, Paddy 7, Tom Blackmore 7, Rory 6, Dave Spauls 4 and McKenzie Loombe 2

There was better news for the Stars in the Division 2 match which they won 89-71. Mckenzie topped the scores with 17 points, Shaun and Rory scored 16 each, Richie Taylor scored 13, Jamie 11, Tom 9, Dave 5 and Paddy 2

Despite being a rider short Norwich managed to win the Youth League match as well by 70 points to 53. This time Shaun topped the scorechart with a full 16 points whilst Will Blackmore, Zak Eastwood and Frank Spauls added 15 each with Ely Willsure adding 9

This weekend will be another busy one for the Stars as on Saturday they will be hosting the opening round of the British Youth & Junior League South-East regional round which will also count towards the South-East Grand Prix series. Hethersett were originally due to stage this but due to delays in construction work at the Memorial Playing Field have necessitated this switch. Hethersett will now stage round 3 on Saturday May 28th.

The action continues on Sunday for the Stars as they welcome Kesgrave to Eaton Park in South-East League action in all 3 divisions with 4 matches taking place as the Youth team will have 2 matches due to Kesgrave having 2 teams in the Youth League

Training sessions take place on most Tuesday evenings at Eaton Park form 6.30pm
