CLUB NEWS: Another successful weekend of racing for Hethersett

HETHERSETT HAWKS / YELLOW BRICK MORTGAGES had another successful weekend of racing around the country. Glyn Morgan led the way with runners-up spot in the Over-60s A Final in the Eurovets Series Round 6 at East Newport. This position assures him of being the overall series champion with one round to go in Birmingham. He also won the B Final in the Over-50s which still keeps him challenging for a podium place in the series.

Seven of the Club’s younger riders were at East London for Round 6 of the South East Grand Prix. Racing at the track which is rarely used but in excellent condition, it was good to hear that plans are afoot for a return to regular racing there. Luc El-Labany continued to be invincible at Under-10 level winning with ease while his sister Nyla came runner-up in the Under-8s, all this while their father Sacha was on a charity ride from London to Paris!! Aiesha Musa and Amelia Dodson finished second and third in the Girls category. Others taking part were Austin Brailey and Oscar Copeland, 7th and 8th in the Under-10s, and Will Clarke, 6th in the Under-14s.

On Sunday it was a return of League racing after a two-month break and the Hawks maintained their unbeaten home record in both South-East Leagues – Division 2 and Youth Division, Great Blakenham were the visitors and they have been struggling at these levels this season so the Hawks duly had comfortable wins. Jason Ashford battled well for Blakenham B but even he could not prevent Mason Martin and Dave Martin remaining unbeaten. However, the highlight was an amazing debut for Michael Gunn, a parent of a new recruit who could not resist having a go at training and then was encouraged to make the team only to have just one defeat in five rides. Aiesha Musa also impressed after bike problems in her opening ride.

Arlo Davies made his team debut while Aiesha Musa and Luca El-Labany were unbeaten, the latter doing some good team-riding. Amelia Dodson also had one of her best matches.
