PREVIEW: British Club Championships Day 1

The 2023 British Club Championships take place at Birmingham this weekend and Saturday’s action, all of which will be Pairs,gets underway at 11am with the Under 16 Girls Club Championship which will be a straight 4 team final. Poole will defend the title they won last year on home shale against Kesgrave (who were runners-up last year), Newport (who were 4th last year) and Hethersett. Poole were also winners of the inaugural staging of this competition in 2017

The Boys Under 16 Club Championship follows at midday and this will also be a straight final with 6 teams entered. Kesgrave, who won this in 2021 and last year, are entered as are Poole (2009, 2011 and 2017 champions), Hethersett (2007 & 2008 winners), Sheffield, Southampton and Coventry

The Women’s Club Championship has 9 teams entered and this will see the 2 semi-finals run together at 1pm. Semi-Final 1 sees the host club Birmingham come up against Coventry, Exeter and Kesgrave whilst the 2nd semi-final sees the only 2 teams to have won this particular event, Leicester and Poole, come up against Wednesfield, Hethersett and Sheffield. Leicester won every staging of this event between 2006 and 2021 with Poole triumphing on home shale last year. The top 3 teams from each semi-final will progress to the Grand Final

The Over 40’s Club Championship is scheduled to get underway at 2.30pm and this will be a straigth final with 7 teams entered. The 10 time and defending champions Leicester are entered, along with Kesgrave (2014 Champions), Great Blakenham, Birmingham, Poole, Newport and Hethersett

The final event of day 1 is the Women’s Club Championship Grand Final which will feature the top 3 teams from each of the semi-finals and is scheduled to start at 4pm
