MATCH REPORT: A&T record 1st Division 1 win of the season

Report by Mike Hack

Astley & Tyldesley recorded their first North & Scotland League Division 1 win of the season, with a comfortable 98-82 home win over Fife, on Sunday. A minute’s silence was held prior to the match, in memory of Edinburgh team manager, John Stansfield, who died during the week.

The first two races were shared, before A&T recorded three successive heat wins to open up a 10 points lead after heat 5. Three maximum heat wins in the space of four races, saw A&T extend their lead to 20 points after heat 10. Fife claimed inside grids after that, to stem the tide. A&T fielded three u-13 riders and took the opportunity to give them experience at this level. Fife’s two late 7-3 heat wins came against u-13 riders.

John White was in excellent form for A&T, losing only to Jake Slight in heat 15. A&T’s main six riders all scored solidly, in a strong team performance. Jake Slight and Kayden Davidson were Fife’s best riders, with three race wins each. Fastest time was by Jake Slight, 43.90 seconds, in heat 1.
