MATCH REPORT: Newport open with comfortable win

Report by Colin Simmons

Newport Cycle Speedway Club started their 50th year in operation with a comfortable 8 point victory over a spirited Poole team at Newports Sports Village in the Division 1 fixture.

The sizeable crowd were enjoying great action and weather in bucket loads, with some real close racing, lots of passing and spills. The visitors were giving as good as they got led by Polish flyer Greg Hlucowski who impressed. but the Welsh 8 had far more depth in their team.

Newport seemed to enjoy the open spaces of the sports village circuit, with Dan Bock , Ryan Jones and maximum man Callum Goward the pic of the bunch for the home team. Newport youngster Sam Marsh suffered 2 heavy falls landing on his back, but thankfully just bruising.

The Poole team gave their all but came up short after contributing to a memorable meeting.
