WEEKEND REVIEW: Women’s League Anniversary highlight of a busy weekend of racing

This year sees the 15th Anniversary of the Women’s League and the occasion will be celebrated at Wednesfield on Saturday to kick off another busy weekend of racing. The action gets underway at 1pm where a ‘28 to 16’ format will be used to whittle the riders down to the main final. Those who are unfortunate to not make the main final will be competing in a concurrent B final. Both finals are aimed to start at approximately 2pm.

Following the event, Team England/GB manager Charlie-Jane Herbert will be hosting an Academy day whereby it will be a start of her selection process in readiness for the World Championships in September. Likely to start at 4pm. Any riders not racing in the above event are welcome to join the academy.

Sunday sees regional racing take place across all 4 regions. In the South East Region there are matches in Division 2 and the Youth League. Kesgrave take on Ipswich while Great Blakenham make the trip to Hethersett with the Division 2 matches starting at 2pm and the Youth League matches following at approximately 3.30pm

In the North & Scotland league there is action at both Hull and Sheffield. Round 2 of Sheffield’s Go-Ride series starts at 11am and is followed by matches between the Stars and Bury in Division 1 and Division 3. Meanwhile Hull welcome Astley & Tyldesley in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 with the Division 3 match at 1pm, the Division 2 match at 2pm and the Division 1 match at 3.30pm

The South & South Wales League should have seen Horspath taking on East Newport but that match was postponed by the Welsh club. Southampton will be taking on Welsh opposition however as Newport are the visitors. Meanwhile it is Birmingham’s turn to satge a Midland Club Day, the format for this wasn’t known at the time of writing
