Newport Cycle Speedway Club concluded their 50th anniversary weekend meetings with a very enjoyable Welsh Women’s Open Championship.
16 top girl racers contested this popular event, which resulted in a 5th victory for Astleys arrow Emily Burgess who sped to a faultless maximum. although she was given a huge fright from the battling Parr and Lewis in heat 5. The stylish Lily Parr of Ipswich finished on 19 points to secure second, showing a liking to the open spaces of the Welsh circuit. New Saint Maddie Saunders beat Birmingham’s Rebekah Humphries in a tun off for 3rd place after both finished on 17 points.
So a great meeting finished off a memorable 50th for the Newport club, who put on an excellently promoted weekend.
