Bob Falconer has released the following statement regarding the Cycle Speedway Federation:
the Cycle Speedway Federation (CSF) is granted charitable status – Charity No1218808
The CSF’s interim Trustees are delighted to announce that the application for charitable status, submitted to the Charity Commission on 07/01/2026, has now been accepted. As of 08/07/2026, the CSF becomes a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and the CSF and its trustees become bound by the Charity Commission’s rules.
This is a huge step forward for cycle speedway, bringing increased credibility, potential for grants, sponsorship, purchasing discounts, and other opportunities to the sport. Alongside this, we have the strict legal responsibilities that come with being a charity.
We will communicate shortly about what this means for affiliated clubs in terms of opportunities and obligations. Meanwhile, for clarity, only the CSF has charitable status, not the affiliated clubs (except for Fife and Leicester who already have charitable status). Clubs can, and should, refer to the CSF as their governing body, whilst quoting the above charity number, without implying that the club itself is a charity (except for those that already are)
Clubs should update their websites and social media accordingly asap and, at the same time, remove references to British (and Scottish and Welsh) Cycling as the NGB for the sport. This has now ceased.
A big step forward for the sport. Thank you to all those involved in the sport for your patience and support in helping CS to reach this important milestone
