NEWS: Coventry confirm challenge matches

Coventry Cycle Speedway club, one of the sports most go-ahead regional outfits, have confirmed several challenge matches at senior and junior level as they race into the 2015 season full of confidence.

The Godiva city side go to Bury, a club they have strong and friendly links with, this Sunday 8th March. The senior match starts at 2pm, with Coventry tracking a full junior side in the supporting clash at 3.30pm.

The following Sunday, 15th March, Coventry travel to Elite League champions Horspath for the first clash between the sides since 2007. Horspath will be fielding a UK based side, and with Coventry without Konrad Pietak and Kyle Roberts, an even encounter is expected. Roberts (pictured left) badly broke his arm racing motor speedway a few weeks ago and is expected to be out for a large chunk of the 2015 campaign.

In an encouraging development, the senior match will be followed by a junior match between the sides, when Coventry will again track a separate junior team. This fixture has been at the request of Horspath, with hard working Zac Payne reporting the Village side have as many as five under 13s ready to race.

Coventry are expected to give a full debut at Bury to their star winter signing, Australian ace Bobby McMillan, who joined the Hearsall Common based side in a blaze of headlines in January.
