PREVIEW: Brandon Bees face Leicester

Brandon Bees Cycle Speedway team aim to continue their winning form this Tuesday (30th June) when they host Leicester at Brandon Road Playing Fields, commencing at 7.15pm.

The newly revived Bees, who were only reformed two months ago, will welcome Leicester in the Midland League division 2 having won their opening two league encounters.

They have already accounted for rivals Coventry and Birmingham in closely fought and entertaining matches at the tight and tricky Brandon Road circuit. Another win against Leicester this week will see a hat-trick of home wins before they start their away fixtures.

Brandon are once again expected to call on fast improving local Warwickshire racer Matt Hambidge to lead their attack, alongside Rugby based Mason Phillips. The 15 year old Phillips has recently won an international call-up to the Great Britain junior team.

The Bees are also expected to include Ashley Pointer and Liam McGuire, who have both recently returned to racing. They are also hoping to field fast gating Tom Sensicall and the stylist Dan Drewett, alongside juniors Ollie Marsh and Charlie Barnett.

In their last home meeting last Tuesday week, Brandon pulled off a nail-biting 71-66 Midland League win over Birmingham in an exciting last heat decider.

The visitors had led for most of the match, raced in perfect track and weather conditions, but a late Brandon rally, inspired by dashing Mason Phillips and veteran star Dave Frith, saw the Bees home for a second successive win.

The Bees welcomed back Ashley Pointer and Liam McGuire to racing after long retirements – Pointer making his first appearance for 8 years – and they both played their parts as the Bees edged home.

Brandon point scorers:

Dave Frith 15, Mason Phillips 13, Tom Sensicall 12, Charlie Barnett 12, Dan Drewett 12, Ashley Pointer 4 and Liam McGuire 3.
