BREAKING NEWS: Brakes for CS from 2017

This is an April Fools joke article – none of the below is factual.

It has been announced this morning that “at least one brake” must be added to a Cycle Speedway bike for the 2017 season.

British Cycling announced the news after an 11th hour deal with the governing body’s insurance underwriters, “Thistle Insurance Services Limited”, broke down last night.

A spokesman for Thistle Insurance said: “In this day and age we must put health and safety at the forefront of our operations. Racing bikes around a tight circuit with no brakes is dangerous, especially for kids. We feel there is no option but to stop the accident that is waiting to happen.”

This will be a major change for Cycle Speedway and takes away one of the “USPs” of the sport.

East Park chairman, Al Bentley commented: “This silly ruling is clearly down to the EU. It’s health and safety gone mad!”
