CLUB NEWS: Steel rules Junior competition

Dorrington Academy youngster, Connor Steel, made a perfect start in defending his Midlands under 10s BYJL title, by winning the fourth and final round of the competition in Wednesfield on Saturday, to finish on a perfect 100 point tally.

10 year Steel had some battles along the way to prove his victories weren’t earned the easy way. However, in truth, Steel has dominated the age category for the past two seasons.

In his first full year of racing, Dylan Hawtin has made remarkable progress and whilst the overall top 3 appeared sorted, he gave full effort making the A final along with Steel and a 4th place finish overall shows he has a bright future ahead.

Both move on to the four round Nationals, starting in Leicester in two weeks time, Steel looking to improve on his 4th place finish last season.

Marc Phipps reached the A final in the U14’s, finishing 4th and 6th overall, whilst William Arkinstall won the B final and finished a respectable 5th overall.

Ewan Hancox finished 3rd on the day and overall in the U17s and must be a threat in his last year in the competition.

Only reigning over 40s Eurovets champion Mark Winwood made the trip to Norwich for the 4th round of the series. He never recovered from a poor opening ride to make the B final, which he won. He lies in 5th place, however he is 31 points behind leader and over 40s world champion Craig Marchant.

This Thursday, Birmingham are holding a public meeting to let the community know their plans to improve the facilities and all the work they have been doing to make the sport and club visible.
