MATCH REPORT: Swindon go top after Newport victory

Swindon now sit at the top, all be it temporarily, of the South and South Wales Cycle Speedway League.

On a sunny afternoon at the Oasis Leisure Centre, a tight contest was always in order, with both teams trading blows to see Swindon take the victory in the last to win by 5 points.

Pick of the visitors was Mark Carmichael, who was in a class of his own, gating over Swindons number 1 twice to keep Newport in with a fighting chance.

For Swindon, Jim Bailey had a couple of super rides, however Matty Rayson, returning from his broken collarbone sustained earlier in the year, looked quick and competitive and claimed valuable points in each of his rides.

Swindons next match is in two weeks time against Southampton at the Oasis, where maximum points must once again be the aim.

Final score: Swindon 92 – 87 Newport
