OBITUARY: Horspath to pay tribute to Peter “Chalky” White

Horspath Hammers will pay tribute to one of Oxfordshire’s iconic Cycle Speedway personalities, Peter “Chalky” White, before this Sunday’s Elite League match against Poole Comets.

“Chalky” started at the old Littlemore Falcons in the Southern League in the 60s, before switch to Horspath after their demise in 1965, for the first of two lengthy spells at The Village.

In between he spent a couple of seasons with the old Uxbridge Pirates, finally ending his racing days at the now defunct Headley Hawks in the 1990s.

A frequent visitor to watch The Hammers, he had what is now his last laps in October last year.

Peter died last week and received an outpouring of messages via social media.

Peter ‘Chalky’ White’s funeral is on Thursday 14th July, at 11am, at the South Oxfordshire Crematorium (OX13 5PA).

Afterwards, a wake will be held at Abingdon Vale Cricket Club (OX14 3HP).

Cycle Speedway friends are all welcome. This is going to be a celebration of his life.

Any donations to ‘Fight Bladder Cancer’ gratefully received.
