CLUB NEWS: Falcons there for Jason

Edinburgh Falcons manager, Stevie Gilroy, made sure that none of his riders were left out of the celebrations, after the Falcons took the Northern League Division One title last weekend.

The day prior to their title success, Falcons’ Sheffield based rider, Jason Burke lost his mother, who passed away peacefully in Lincoln county Hospital after a short battle with cancer.

The following day, Edinburgh achieved the “impossible dream” by ending Stockport’s 6 year dominance of Northern League 1, taking the league title with a 90-89 victory over Bury Comets, going 13 matches unbeaten since the opening day of the season.

Jason picks up the story: “My active involvement this season was ended by injury and subsequent back surgery in August of this year, but the guys up there, especially manager Stevie Gilroy, and fellow rider Neil Swanson, have kept me involved from afar and made me feel part of this outstanding effort.

“Imagine my surprise last night, when after 48 hours of grieving and making the necessary arrangements with my Dad for my Mum’s funeral, who should turn up on my doorstep…

“None other than the League Winning Manager Stevie Gilroy – 240 miles south of his Leith home! Stevie was armed with the commemorative league winners champagne and T-Shirt and proudly handed both to me, I was extremely moved by this amazing gesture from an amazing manager of an amazing team of blokes.

“The Falcons hashtag mantra of #thatsthebloodydifference was surely never more apparent than through this amazing gesture to me from Stevie, and I am extremely proud to be a Falcon.

“Thank You Stevie G!”

A very fine gesture from one one of Cycle Speedway’s nice guys to another. We offer Jason our sincere condolences at this sad time.
