CLUB NEWS: Coventry launch indoor winter season

Following the news that the British Indoor Finals of 2016 are to be staged at the Sports Connexion venue, near Coventry, the Coventry Cycle Speedway club have moved speedily to confirm a winter programme of practice and training sessions, starting next Sunday.

The popular sessions, which were first launched three years ago, will return for a fourth successive winter on Sunday 20th November. The sessions will be staged for five weeks – providing excellent practice opportunities for the British Indoor Finals in early January 2017.

The full dates are:
Sunday 20th November
Sunday 27th November
Sunday 4th December
Sunday 11th December
Sunday 18th December

The times remain unchanged. All sessions will start at 7pm and end at 9pm. There is no session on Sunday 25th December 2016 or Sunday 1st January 2017.

The sessions are also open to complete newcomers who wish to try the all-action sport of Cycle Speedway, such as new riders, cyclists from other cycle sports or Speedway fans who want to have a go at the pedal version of the sport.

Members of the new Brandon Bees team, plus riders from the Nuneaton BMX club, are expected to be in attendance. New riders attracted to the host Coventry club this year are also expected to swell the numbers.

Entry costs have been pegged by the organisers – the Coventry Cycle Speedway club – at the same level as last year. This winter’s price structure is as follows:

Coventry CSC Juniors: £2.00
Coventry CSC Seniors: £4.00
Brandon Bees Juniors: £2.00
Nuneaton BMX Club Juniors £2.00
Nuneaton BMX Club Seniors: £4.00
Visiting Juniors: (Under 18s) £3.00
Visiting Seniors: £5.00

The club would remind all riders, officials and spectators attending the practice sessions at the Sports Connexion, on the five dates this winter, do so entirely at their own risk. Management reserve the rights to admission.

Leading Coventry official Andy Drewett said: “Coventry CSC, acting for the overall good of the sport, are very pleased to provide these much-needed practice opportunities for indoor competitors as they prepare for the British Finals. We look forward to welcoming everyone from the sport to Coventry this winter”.

The Sports Connexion complex, with all facilities including large car park, is located in Leamington Road, Ryton On Dunsmore, Coventry. CV8 3FL. It is within 20 minutes of the M1, M6, M69 and M40.

The British Indoor Cycle Speedway finals race into the Sports Connexion on Saturday 7th January and Sunday 8th January 2017.
