MATCH REPORT: BYJL SEGP Rd1 action from Kesgrave

The first round of the South East and East British Youth & Junior League (BYJL) took place at Kesgrave on Saturday 8th April.

The weather was ideal for racing being still, warm and dry. It was good to see riders from Great Blakenham, Hethersett, Norwich, Ipswich and Kesgrave on the entry list but special mention must go to our new friends from Hellingly who made the long trip from the south coast with eight riders.

The U8s and U10s got proceedings underway with Kesgrave riders dominating in these younger categories. Oliver Edmunds (Kesgrave) top qualified in U8s and duly won the A final from Lily Parr (Kesgrave). In U10s, Charlie Parr (Kesgrave) top qualified and won the A final despite being drawn in gate 3.

U8:

The U12s and U14s entertained with good close racing despite some riders being absent due to Easter holidays. Kesgrave’s Lewis Brinkhoff was the class of the U14 field winning every race including the A final from gate 4. Ipswich riders caught the eye with Ben Clarke showing well in U14s and Kai Gowers challenging the U12 winner, Torsten Jolly, of Kesgrave.

U12:

Ipswich riders Pierce Bacon, Harrison Bacon and Reece Johnson were the pick of the Junior field with Adam Cooper of Great Blakenham also showing well. Harrison took the win in the A final with Pierce sliding off whilst challenging for the lead.

Juniors (U18):

Ipswich also dominated the Girls category with Chloe Pearce, Lily Gedge and Gemma Hill with Rebecca Hollebon also showing to produce execellent racing.

Girls:

The seniors and veterans also produce some entertaining racing with Hellingly riders, Neil and Martyn Hollebon, winning the A finals

The BYJL has again produced an excellent day of good natured but competitive racing and we look forward to the BYJL South East Regional Rd 2 at Ipswich Eagles in two weeks time on Saturday 22 April.
