MATCH REPORT: Norwich go down against Kesgrave at Eaton Park

Norwich welcomed Kesgrave to Eaton Park for a SE/E League fixture on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon.

After losing their first match against local rivals Hethersett, Norwich were keen to make amends against Kesgrave.

The Kesgrave pairing of J Chittock/B Harvey inflicted the worst possible start with a 7-3 over Norwich pairing L Grange/A Dyball in heat 1.

Norwich second heat pairing, C Cullum/P Wenn, scored 6-4 win and heat 3 was shared, 5-5.

Following an exclusion for Kesgrave in heat 4, the scores were 19-20 to the visitors but that was as close as Norwich got as the next 4 heats went in favour of Kesgrave with the interval score at 38-51.

The second half saw Norwich pairing L Grange/P Wenn score two 7-3s but it wasn’t enough with the match already out of reach.

Norwich’s young stars take a hammering against a strong Kesgrave side in division 2 during which Kesgrave scored fourteen 7-3s.

The highlight of the match though was in heat 3 when belated debutante Bruce Rainbow. Bruce had previously called off his debut because of pre-race nerves (which the author still gets). As the tapes went up, all pre race tactics went out of the window as Bruce stormed to record a tapes to flag victory in his first ever race.
